Auditory fatigue examined by bilateral loudness balance test on normal Koreans.

Abstract
Auditory fatigue in suprathreshold tone was examined by bilateral loudness balance method on 70 ears with normal hearing,
All ears were divided into 6 groups ;
1, 000 C. P. S. , 90db
2, 000 C. P. S. , 90db
4, 000 C. P. S. , 90db
1, 000 C. P. S. , 60db
2, 000 C. P. S. , 60db
4, 000 C. P. S. , 60db
During a continuous stimulation of 5 minutes at each sensation level in each frequency on one ear, a pure tone of short impulse in the same frequency was applied on the other ear 15 seconds after the stimulation and there after every 30 seconds.
By adjusting a balancing tone to a fatiguing tone, the loudness balance of the sensation of both ears was obtained in every impulse and recorded in graph.
In all groups, auditory fatigue developed abruptly in almost all ears within 15 seconds, reaching its maximum value within 3 or 4 minute, and progressed horizontally with a very wide ranging.
With the stimulation of 60 db, fatigue curve was nearly equal in all frequencies only with slight more marked change in higher frequencies.
However with stimulation of 90db, fatigue was more marked in lower frequencies.
In evaluating abvove results, it seemed to be rational to think about the ¢¥fatigue according to crossed hearing, and it can be said that suprathreshold fatigue pattern differs from the threshold shift.
Recuperation curve took same pattern with the fatiguing curve and returned to its prestimulatory sensation level within 2 minutes in almest all cases.
